$800m funding for Tasmanian road, rail projects

TASMANIA will receive $800 million for road and rail projects as part of the Federal Government's $26.4 billion Nation Building Fund.

The money will go towards a number of road and rail projects around the State, including $34 million towards a $42.5 million upgrade of North-East freight roads.

State Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges said the agreement is the biggest-ever investment in the nation's road and rail infrastructure.

He said the funding will be spent on projects such as the Brighton and Kingston bypasses, North-East freight roads, rail upgrade projects, and increased maintenance funding for the national road network.

The government said there will also be money for planning the Bagdad bypass and Bridgewater Bridge, level crossing funding, and $13.5 million in black-spot funding.

Roads to benefit from the $800 million package include Prossers Forest Rd, along with North-East roads like Camden Rd, the Tasman Highway, and the Bridport Main Rd between Bell Bay and Scottsdale.
