THE FEDERAL Government announced it will invest $97 million in 50,000 new ‘green’ jobs and training or young people, including training apprentice mechanics in green engine technology.
The plan will consist of four elements, the largest is funding for 30,000 apprentices to complete their training with green skills.
This will see the Government negotiate a new ‘national green skills agreement’, which will make sustainability training a fundamental part of all vocational training programs.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd told delegates at the conference that every new trade apprentice who commences training after 1 January 2010 will complete their apprenticeship with a core set of green skills and knowledge as part of their training.
This agreement will lead to national sustainability standards in vocational training and will require VET instructors and teachers to acquire new skills to train the apprentices of the future.
