ARTC says new interstate rail network could slash truck numbers

CONSTRUCTION will begin this week on a multi-million dollar interstate rail network that could significantly slash the number of trucks on the nation’s roads.

The Federal Government’s plan to improve the rail network was cemented by announcing the commencement of the $91 million Cootamundra to Parkes link in New South Wales.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) said the upgrades in rail would lead to fewer trucks, stating that one 1500 metre train had the potential to replace around 100 trucks.

The ARTC added it would create more jobs for the community and boost the local economy.
