THE AUSTRALIAN Trucking Association (ATA) must continue arguing for policy measures to help support the economy, trucking operators and the jobs of the industry’s employees, the Chairman of the ATA, Trevor Martyn said today.
At the ATA’s Annual General Meeting in Canberra, Martyn said these are some of the association’s key tasks now the effects of the economic downturn have spread across the trucking industry.
Martyn said the ATA and its subsidiaries would be affected by the economic downturn, but said the ATA Board of Management had budgeted prudently for the coming year.
He added that he was particularly confident about the ATA’s future after a series of meetings held yesterday.
“The ATA Board met with the presidents of our member associations. At the same time, our Chief Executive, Stuart St Clair, met with the associations’ CEOs. The ATA Board, the presidents, the CEOs and our Chief Executive then held a joint meeting,” he said.
“These meetings were a chance to deal with a series of issues, many involving the ATA’s communication with its member organisations.
