ATA urges companies to continue safety focus

ATA Chief Executive, Stuart St Clair has used his final presentation of the year to renew calls for Australia’s trucking companies to put in place strong safety policies as a key way of reducing the number of accidents.

Speaking to the Informa Road Safety 2009 Conference, St Clair said there was a big difference between the safest companies in the industry and the rest.

“Australia’s best and safest trucking companies have policies to train, support and monitor their drivers and ensure they are fit and healthy to drive,” he said.

“They invest in the safest vehicles, maintain them well, and have systems to ensure their drivers are scheduled legally.

“But you don’t have to be a big operator to have safety systems like these.

"The ATA’s TruckSafe accreditation program enables every company to put them in place," St Clair said.
