Federal Govt to be lobbied on the Princes Highway upgrade

THE SOUTHERN Councils Group has announced it will lobby the Federal Government in Canberra this week to help fund the upgrade of the Princes Highway.

The group said it wants to meet with Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese during the National General Assembly of Local Government to make him aware of the work the PHocus taskforce has done, campaigning for the improvement of the Highway.

The Chair of the Group Sandra McCarthy also said the New South Wales budget has only given enough money to continue with the ongoing programs in place and the need really as a matter of urgency for that federal funding to improve the safety of the road.

Councillor McCarthy says the Victorian stretch of the highway enjoys both federal and state support.

She says she will also be pointing out the limited amount of money set aside for the highway in the recent New South Wales budget.
