GR George fleet up for auction as liquidators move in

QUEENSLAND-based transport group GR George’s multi-million dollar fleet will be auctioned on April 7 2009 after the company was placed into liquidation.

SV Partners today put 45 prime movers and 51 trailers on the auction block.

Vehicles up for auction include 30 Volvos and 10 Kenworths.

The auction is at the request of the corporate insolvency specialist and “various financiers”.

Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) records indicate the company was placed under external administration in early this year.

Founded in 1990 by Graham George, the company grew from a small transport business into a significant service provider in the refrigerated transport industry.

The group serviced the distribution routes throughout the east coast of Australia as well as Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

The company later acquired Whites Westrans, a NSW-based general freight carrier in 2003.

Customers included Woolworths, Nestle, Speedibake, Visy, Bindaree Beef, Northern Co-operative Meat Company, George Weston Foods, Manassen Fine Foods, Perkins Gulf Freight Services and Comgroup.
