MOREE Plains Shire Council of Sydney has released plans to open up access to High Productivity Vehicles (HPVs) on selected routes within its local government area.
The decision follows over two years of collaboration with the Australian Trucking Association (ATA).
According to the ATA, it has provided the council with tangible benefits of allowing HPVs such as Triple and AB-Triple combinations into the area.
ATA chief executive, Stuart St Clair, says by investigating the use of HPVs in their local region, Moree Plains Council is taking real steps to improve the quality and safety of their local roads.
“The ATA has long argued that, on the right roads, the use of high productivity vehicles can make a significant impact on safety, road wear and efficiency,” Stuart said.
“That’s why the ATA has been working with councils across the country to dispel much of the incorrect information about HPVs.”
ATA claims through programs such as the Narrandera Heavy Vehicle Information and Demonstration Day, held by the ATA last year, local councils can get the correct information about what benefits these vehicles can offer.
The first part of Moree Plains Council’s plan is to identify the key freight sources and destinations within its local government area.
