Motorists warned of extra trucks on New England Highway after floods

THE AUSTRALIAN Trucking Association (ATA) is warning motorists to exercise caution on the New England Highway in the wake of the North Coast floods, particularly due to an influx of trucks this week.

A larger numbers of heavy vehicles have been forced onto inland routes to get produce to supermarkets and wholesale distributors.

The association's chief executive, Stuart St Clair, says motorists should be patient with the extra traffic because the semi-trailers have no where else to go.

St Clair said a couple of thousand a day come through the New England instead of the Pacific Highway.

He says motorists need to ensure there are increased numbers of motorists on the road.
