New safety code released for transport, logistics industry

MEMBERS of the transport and logistics sector can apply to become accredited under a new safety code instigated by the Australian Logistics Council (ALC).

Applications are now open for the National Logistics Safety Code, which outlines the responsibilities for players in the logistics safety environment.

The code attempts to bring together previous rules and regulations into one industry-based code.

Critical safety areas which will be included in the code include fatigue management, communication, speed management and subcontractor assessment.

Existing safety codes for the retail and steel sectors have already been incorporated, with more to follow according to ALC Chief Executive Hal Morris.

“The ALC was pleased by the high level of enthusiasm expressed by the transport and logistics industry when we announced the NLSC was coming,” Morris says.

The code is available from today.
