MACKAY’s Carol Single was named as the winner of the National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year Award at this year’s 2009 National Trucking Industry Awards.
The Mackay trucking operator and member of the Mackay Road Action Awareness Group has been heavily involved with the Mackay Road Action Awareness Group and Safety Committee for almost 30 years.
According to the Australian Trucking Association (ATA), Single is passionate about road safety and has been a key player in the Eton Range project and warning governments about the dangers the area poses to drivers.
In her acceptance speech, Single said the safety of road users was the real reward for the work she has undertaken with many government departments, politicians, trucking industry bodies and road safety stakeholders.
The National Trucking Industry Awards are presented annually as part of the Australian Trucking Convention. This year’s convention is being held on the Gold Coast.
The Chairman of the ATA, Trevor Martyn, said the awards are a crucial part of the industry’s calendar, because they identify and reward the people who have contributed to taking the Australian trucking industry to a higher level of professionalism.
“Listening to the winners speak on the night provides a strong indication of why they won — they all have tremendous passion for our industry, and an uncompromising commitment to its improvement,” Martyn said.
