Schenker Australia opens Sydney logistics hub

SCHENKER Australia has opened a new logistics hub located in Yennora to streamline its operations.

When fully developed, the new warehouse and distribution centre will provide a link between the economies of rural and regional Australia and the global economy.

Schenker said by integrating road and rail transport the company will be able to reduce road transport and the number of trucks in the currently congested Sydney metro area

Schenker Australia CEO Ron Koehler said shifting some freight consignments from road to rail will not only help to relieve traffic on Sydney’s busy roads, more important rail compared to road reduces carbon dioxide emissions and increases road safety.

The state of the art facility, employs around 100 people, and consists of two buildings with 20,000 square meters and 12,000 square meters respectively joined by a 3,800 square meters breezeway, allowing for 100% undercover operation from goods arrival to despatch.

Some of the notable features of the site include 13m high roofing, 27 rear loading docks, nine roller door access, ample truck hard stand area, allowing for a seamless flow of goods from receiving to shipping in a fully integrated and IT solutions enable hub.

The site has also been fitted with a sophisticated security system comprising of full access control, alarm, monitoring and 24X7 CCTV coverage.
