Tamborine Transport in court over $25k dispute

THE DIRECTOR of Gold Coast trucking company Tamborine Transport is facing court action for allegedly refusing to a pay a driver $25,000 in leave entitlements over more than a decade.

The office of the Federal Workplace Ombudsman said it has launched action against former owner Douglas Desmond Cameron from the Gold Coast.

The Ombudsman claims Tamborine Transport paid the driver for only five weeks of annual leave over the 11 years he was a full-time employee.

A spokesman for the Ombudsman says there have been several attempts to have the money paid and Cameron de-registered the company last August.

He says employers cannot avoid accountability by closing their businesses.

The matter has been listed for a directions hearing in the Federal Magistrates Court in Brisbane later this month.
