TRANSPORT Certification Australia has recently released the world-first feasibility report into on-board mass monitoring of heavy vehicles.

TCA is the company implementing the Intelligent Access Program, and the feasibility study was funded by the Commonwealth, in order to assess whether on-board vehicle weighing systems can be engaged to support the government road reform process.

Specifically, the study aimed to ascertain whether current on-board mass systems are able to produce evidentiary level data that is accurate, robust and tamper evident.

TCA tested 12 systems from eight Australian vendors and agents, including Accuweigh, Bulknet, E-Max, Elphinstone, Loadman, Loadsmart, Pacific Scales and Tramanco.

The report found it was possible to achieve on-board mass measurement within 2% accuracy. The systems were also found to be robust enough for Australian needs and physical environments.

The Government has requested for the TCA to develop specifications over the coming months, with full specifications anticipated by early 2010.
